Shaping EU migration policies: Bridging the gap between local realities and political decision making in the EU
Cities across Europe are on the frontline, doing the lion's share of the integration work. In recent years, they have joined forces in city networks such as the International Alliance of Safe Harbours (IASH) to advocate for a progressive, human rights-based approach to migration policy in the EU.
During this event, we will discuss the challenges lying ahead in EU migration policy and how cities integration practices are affected on the ground. We will also discuss about the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, as it enters the final stage of negotiations and would have serious implications for the individual right to asylum.
How can European cities help the EU to build a fair and efficient migration system? How can dialogue and collaboration between cities, organised civil society and the EU on migration policies be improved? These are the questions we will address together with city representatives, city networks, and EU decision-makers.
