On October 10-11, the International Cities4Refugees conference “Cities as Change Makers in European Asylum and Migration Policy” in Berlin was an opportunity to discuss the impact of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) on European cities, their role in implementing and evaluating the new regulations and their responsibilities in holding up a humanitarian and human rights based approach.
It brought together representatives from cities like Utrecht, Villeurbanne and Berlin, and representatives from civil society, European and local networks like Eurocities, From the Sea to the City and the National Association of Welcoming Cities and Territories (ANVITA) in France.
As Moving Cities we contributed with our newly published insights on successful local patterns for migrant solidarity in cities. Nick Dreher, researcher at the Toronto Metropolitan University Soli*City cluster, shared some positive examples of cooperation from our latest joint publication on the panel “Cooperation Between Civil Society and Administration in City Networks – Participatory Administrative Approaches” as a kick-off for an interactive discussion with the audience on successful collaborations.
